Dead Stock Katazome Aloha
One size 5 available
This is unused dead stock hemp fabric dating from the Taishō era in Japan (early 1900’s). It is still in excellent condition and does not have any damage or fading. I rarely see something this old in this condition….
The selvedge fabric was made narrow in width because it was originally designed to be used for a kimono or yukata (Japanese people were much smaller back then….this fabric was not very wide at all)….
Due to the narrow width we had to stitch multiple sections together to create a shirt that would be wide enough to wear…..this looks adds to the overall vintage style. You can see the exposed selvedge on the sections stitched together…
The blue is a natural indigo and the redish flowers are probably ガンベラ (ganbera) dyed……can’t say for sure….
- 100% hemp Japanese katazome fabric / indigo hand dye
- Vintage Japanese buttons
- Hand stitched button holes with hemp thread
- Hand painted sumi tag on vintage indigo fabric
The fabric is washed so there shouldn’t be much shrinkage once you receive the shirt
